The Dampier Peninsula is a delight for travellers seeking a real Kimberley experience that is culturally rewarding in a beautiful environment. As we journey north, travellers will learn all about the area’s fascinating place in Australia’s history. Enjoy morning tea in the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home to the Sacred Heart Church and its glimmering pearl shell altar. Completed in 1918, this ‘Mother of Pearl Church’ is inspired by German architecture and a team of Aboriginal women worked under the direction of a German priest to decorate the interior with mother of pearl, cowrie, voulte and olive snail shells to create a unique mosaic that features the totum symbols of the Nyul Nyul, Nimanborr and Bardi people as well as Christian symbols.
We then travel north to the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. The only working pearl farm open to the public, Cygnet Bay offers an insight into the history and cultivation of the world’s finest pearls during Pearl Farm Tour. Relax and enjoy a delightful lunch prepared by the chef at Cygnet Bay’s licensed restaurant, overlooking the turquoise waters of King Sound. In the afternoon you will board a high speed vessel for a truly remarkable experience on the Kimberley Coast. As we cruise through the Sunday Island group of the Buccaneer Archipelago the enormous power of the tide is on display in the form of whirlpools and standing waves. Your experienced skipper provides fascinating insights into this extreme tropical environment and how this not only affects the people of the Kimberley Coast but also how it powers the Australian pearling industry.
We then reboard the vehicle for our journey back to Broome, arriving at approximately 6.30pm. Those who have chosen the 4WD/Fly (1DDP4) option will be transferred to the One Arm Point Airstrip to meet the pilot for the short flight to Broome, arriving at approximately 5pm.
The 1 Day Cygnet Bay & Sea Safari departs daily (except Saturdays), from April to October.
Throughout June, July & August, departures on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are Guaranteed with a minimum of only 2 travellers, while departures on a Monday, Wednesday & Friday require a minimum of 6 travellers to proceed.

We operate our 4WD Broome Day Tours in custom-built, 21 or 27 seat 4WD trucks with a PA system and built-in storage (no risky trailers!). These comfortable, strong remote area vehicles allow our small groups extra space (including standing room), are fully air-conditioned and fitted with adjustable air-vents, reclinable seats, map pockets and footrests. It is important than when booking a 4WD outback adventure in the Kimberley, you understand that the roads we travel on can be heavily corrugated. Rest assured, these are the conditions for which our 4WD trucks are designed.
The Kimberley Island Explorer and Giant Tides Cruises are operated by Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, in either a Cyclone or Monsoon high speed vessel or their Atlanta IV aluminium tourist vessel, depending on the weather conditions. These boats are perfect for the powerful tidal conditions experienced in the Buccaneer Archipelago.
What to Bring
Recommendations include: a broad-brimmed hat with sun visor (broad brimmed being better for all round sun protection), personal water bottle, sunscreen and camera.
Notes
- The Sea Safari is operated by Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Note that the Giant Tides option is tide dependent; on neap tides, we will instead take the Kimberley Island Explorer Cruise.
- The 4WD/Fly Option (1DDP4) is operated in conjunction with Air Kimberley. It is important that you provide us with your body weight on booking for the airline manifest.
- Access to Aboriginal Communities can be interrupted due to COVID-19 government restrictions, which can sometimes affect our itineraries.
- This tour itinerary does not visit the Kooljaman or Cape Leveque areas as they are closed for the foreseeable future.
